He fondly remembers walking up the 33 flights of stairs at the now vacant HSBC building. Jim was a journeyman ironworker who worked on many of the major buildings in Buffalo. As the oldest of 8 children, college money was not available so Jim spent 14 years going to night school to get his degrees. Jim also taught SAT prep classes at Buffalo State College. He taught every level: from 8th grade to AP English. Jim Banko taught English for almost thirty years in the city of Buffalo. He is currently living in Hamburg, NY with his wife and three children. Nathan is a military veteran and prior to working for Erie County he worked in the Information Security field for 20 years for the federal government. Nathan Bake is the Information Security Officer for Erie County. Karen is a military veteran and a civil servant who values the needs of our senior and over 18 disabled population who finds her job very rewarding and believes the resources we have to offer are very much needed in our community. In this role she supervises Case Managers who assess clients for services. Karen just celebrated 17 years in I&A (Information & Assistance)/NY Connects where she presently works as a Senior Case Manager now.

She began her career in the Department of Senior Services under Adult Protective Services before transitioning to the Information and Assistance Unit within the same department as a Case Manager. Karen has her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and has been working for Erie County for 29 years.
